The New Canterbury Tales

In samenwerking met het lectoraat Gebouwde Omgeving van Hogeschool Avans onderzoeken we twee thema’s met betrekking tot de stad in de toekomst. Hiervoor verkennen we samen met kunstenaars het dagelijks leven in 2070. Rond de thema’s ‘living with nature’ en ‘compassionate communities’ gaan beeldend kunstenaars de komende anderhalf jaar samen met bewoners van de stad aan de slag.

In april organiseerde KOP samen met partners Stedelijk Museum Breda, Antoine Linssen van Zerow, Nina Kramer en Sarah Lugthart van Hogeschool Avans en beeldend kunstenaar Maarten Bel masterclasses over Immersive Storytelling, Serious Gaming en interactie met kunst in de publieke ruimte. De masterclasses vormden input voor kunstenaars Kate Studley, Christine Ayo, Olivier van den Brandt, Emilija Riviere en Chantal van Lieshout, die we uitdaagden om vanuit hun artistieke praktijk de toekomst te verkennen.

Beeldend kunstenaars Kate Studley en Maarten Bel doen komende maanden een artistiek onderzoeksproject waarin zij de visie van kinderen over de stad in 2070 gaan verzamelen. Van 22 september tot en met 22 oktober is de voortgang van hun project te volgen in Stedelijk Museum Breda.

Dit project is een samenwerking van Hogeschool Avans, KOP, Stedelijk Museum Breda, Zerow en ARU Cambridge School of Art. Met financiële ondersteuning van Click-NL met een PPS-schenking van het Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat.

In collaboration with the lectorate of Avans University of Applied Sciences, we are investigating two themes related to the city of the future. To this end, we are exploring daily life in 2070 together with artists. Over the next year and a half, visual artists will be working with residents of the city on the themes of ‘living with nature’ and ‘compassionate communities’.

In April, KOP, together with partners Stedelijk Museum Breda, Antoine Linssen from Zerow, Nina Kramer and Sarah Lugthart from Avans University of Applied Sciences and visual artist Maarten Bel, organized masterclasses on Immersive Storytelling, Serious Gaming and interaction with art in the public space. The masterclasses provided input for artists Kate Studley, Christine Ayo, Olivier van den Brandt, Emilija Riviere and Chantal van Lieshout, whom we challenged to explore the future from their artistic practice.

Visual artists Kate Studley and Maarten Bel will be conducting an artistic research project in the coming months in which they will collect children’s views on the city in 2070. From September 22 to October 22, the progress of their project can be followed in Stedelijk Museum Breda.

This project is a collaboration of Avans, KOP, Stedelijk Museum Breda, Zerow and ARU Cambridge School of Art. We are a consortium with a common interest: Working on a better future for all living beings, facing the challenges that await us in the upcoming decades. We strongly believe that developing a joint vision about the way we would like to live, will help the future to shape itself.
